My week has been a blur of back to back Fur Rondy appearances and carnival chaos. As one of this year’s official influencers, I’ve been everywhere from checking out sled dogs to mini‑bonspiel curling. I’ve watched giant snow blocks transform into fantastical creatures and carnival lights go from bulbs to straight up fireworks. With the final weekend upon us, I can feel the energy building. We’re going out with a bang! But while I’ll be streaming the Running of the Reindeer on TikTok Saturday afternoon, I also know Anchorage has plenty of nightlife, music and art happening away from the mushing district. Here are five after‑5 p.m. events to keep your weekend buzzing.
Mirror Ball Disco Party
Where: Williwaw Social, 609 F Street, Anchorage
When: Friday, 8 p.m. – late (doors 7 p.m.)
What & Why: On Friday night, downtown turns into a glittering disco dream. ABBAlaska belts out the biggest ABBA hits while DJ Spencer Lee and Bodelia James keep the dance floor thumping deep into the night. Expect sing‑alongs, sequins and nonstop feel‑good energy. The first 50 people who RSVP and arrive before 9 p.m. get in free. It’s all‑ages until 10 p.m.; after that the grown‑ups have the mirror ball all to themselves. Dust off your disco fits and go dance away whatever winter blues you’ve got left.

Hosted by local legend Athena Nuff, this showcase stars Sasha Colby (of RuPaul’s Drag Race fame) alongside Frankie Doom, Glenn Coco, Krustyna Clown and a cast of queens with names as outlandish as their outfits. Expect choreography, costumes and enough personality to fill a ballroom. It’s 18+, and attendees under 21 need balcony tickets — so grab your glitter and prepare for a night of over‑the‑top fun.

Where: Sitzmark Bar & Grill, 100 Olympic Mountain Loop, Girdwood
When: Friday & Saturday, doors 8 p.m., show 9 p.m.
What & Why: Hop down to Girdwood for two nights of rowdy roots music. Alaska‑grown folk rockers Blackwater Railroad Company bring foot‑stomping songs and storytelling to the Sitzmark; no two shows are the same. Their sets are described as roots‑driven, rowdy and full of surprises — dancing is inevitable, so grab your friends and feel alive. The venue is 21+ and tickets are $20; it’s the perfect excuse for a mini road trip and a night in the mountains.

Honorable Mention – Running of the Reindeer
Where: Fourth Avenue between D and H Streets (downtown Anchorage)
When: Saturday, 4 p.m.
What & Why: Fur Rondy’s wildest event is back: costumed runners try to outrun a pack of reindeer sprinting down Fourth Avenue. It’s as chaotic and hilarious as it sounds, with prizes for best costume and bragging rights for anyone who avoids the antlers. Registration costs $35 and benefits Toys for Tots. I appreciate your readership
After a whirlwind of Rondy appearances and influencer duties, I’m gearing up for one last weekend of winter magic. I’ll be livestreaming the Running of the Reindeer stampede and cheering on costumed racers as they dodge antlers for charity. After that? You’ll find me under a mirror ball belting out “Dancing Queen,” laughing until my sides hurt at Fluffy’s stand‑up show, trading sequins for fur hats at the Blizzard Bash or stomping my feet in Girdwood. Spring is around the corner but until then, let’s squeeze every ounce of fun out of winter. See you on Fourth Avenue, and maybe on TikTok!
