I’ve spent most of this week staring at website layouts, rearranging digital furniture and asking deeply important questions like, “Does this button look better three pixels to the left?”
That’s because a refreshed mranchorage.com experience is coming next week! I’m also building new ways for Anchorage businesses to sponsor Mr. Anchorage content. Helping local businesses reach more Alaskans while helping me continue telling the stories that make this city special. Things are getting interesting!
Thankfully, this weekend gives me (and all of us) a reason to close the laptop. The National Weather Service is forecasting sunshine all three days, with highs near 72 Friday, 71 Saturday and 68 Sunday. In Anchorage terms, that’s basically a municipal order to leave the house. Denali Family Fest

If your Friday could use a little less inbox and a little more barbecue, Denali Family Fest is ready to intervene.
Denali Family Services is bringing a free afternoon of food, bouncy houses, face painting, games, giveaways and family-friendly entertainment to Chanshtnu Muldoon Park. Community organizations will also be there sharing services and resources with local families.
Yes, this one starts before the traditional Friday-evening weekend whistle—but free barbecue recognizes no clock.

Farrago Five at Hilltop
Where: Hilltop Ski Area, 7015 Abbott Road
When: Friday, July 31, 6–7:30 p.m.
Hilltop’s Summer Music on the Patio series welcomes Farrago Five, an Anchorage band formed in a Hillside garage and apparently determined to explore every available corner of rock music.
It should be a wonderfully Anchorage kind of Friday night: live music on the patio, mountain views in the background and no need to decide whether you’re attending a concert or simply enjoying the outdoors. You’re doing both.

Native Village of Eklutna Powwow & Potlatch
Where: Native Village of Eklutna, 26339 Eklutna Village Road
When: Saturday and Sunday, August 1–2, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. each day
This weekend’s most meaningful gathering takes place in Eklutna, where the Native Village of Eklutna is hosting two days of traditional dancing and drumming, cultural and educational vendors, food, youth activities, drawings and community connection.
This year’s theme, “Restoring Our River—97 Years Later,” connects the celebration to the continuing effort to restore water and salmon to the Eklutna River. It’s an opportunity to enjoy an incredible gathering while learning more about the Dena’ina community whose history here reaches back far beyond the city around it.
Come respectfully, support the vendors and give yourself time to experience more than just one performance.

Forest and Friends Fun Run
Where: Alaska Botanical Garden, 4601 Campbell Airstrip Road
When: Sunday, August 2, 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
The Alaska Botanical Garden is inviting children and their grown-ups to run, walk or joyfully meander through the garden dressed as their favorite forest friend or enchanted creature.
That means Sunday morning could include fairies, foxes, mushrooms, woodland sprites and at least one parent who assembled a moose costume shortly before bedtime Saturday.
This second-annual family event is less about setting a personal record and more about getting kids moving in one of Anchorage’s loveliest natural settings. Parents are encouraged to travel the course alongside their little runners.

Spenard Bike Week Launch & Blessing of the Bikes
Where: House of Harley-Davidson, 4334 Spenard Road
When: Sunday, August 2, 1–8 p.m.
Spenard Bike Week roars to life Sunday with live music, free food, prizes, a beer garden, charity raffle and the annual Gathering and Blessing of the Bikes.
The opening ceremony runs from 3–5 p.m., followed by a group ride at 5 and a key drawing at 7. You don’t have to own a motorcycle to stop by, admire the machines and enjoy the spectacle—but prolonged exposure may cause you to begin casually browsing motorcycle listings.
Bike Week continues through August 9, but Sunday is where the engines officially wake up.

Honorable Mention: Anchorage Summer Night Market Finale
Where: F Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues
When: Friday, July 31, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
The Anchorage Summer Night Market closes its 2026 season with one final downtown evening of local artists, makers, musicians and food vendors.
This is a particularly easy Friday-night option: wander the booths, grab dinner, listen to live music and remind yourself how much fun downtown can be when we fill the street with people instead of parallel-parking anxiety.

I’ll be returning to my website-refresh cave soon enough, but not before taking some of my own advice. Sunshine in Anchorage is never something to save for later… it has a strict no rollover policy.
So put on the sunglasses, support something local and enjoy the kind of weekend that makes the rest of the country jealous, but still not willing to tolerate February.
