Better late than never!

We missed the early invites this week, but there’s still a trove of spooky fun, live music, costumes and crafts waiting after 5 p.m. tonight. Grab your jacket and some candy – here are my five favourite ways to make the most of the weekend.

Monster Ball – Gaga‑Inspired Halloween Party

  • What & When: Showdown Alaska and Bear Tooth Theatrepub are throwing a Monster Ball on Friday, Oct 24. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the music kicks off at 9 p.m.. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door, and you must be 21+ to attend.

  • Where: Bear Tooth Theatrepub, 1230 W 27th Avenue, Anchorage.

  • Why Go: Inspired by Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour, this Halloween bash promises an evening of over‑the‑top costumes, high‑energy beats and plenty of spooky glamour. The theatrepub will transform into a club with drink specials and a packed dance floor – perfect for grown‑ups who still want to play dress‑up.

Alien Ant Farm Live in Alaska

  • What & When: Southern California alt‑rockers Alien Ant Farm bring their blend of catchy hooks and heavy riffs to Anchorage on Saturday, Oct 25 from 7–11 p.m. AKDT. General admission tickets start around $39.

  • Where: Williwaw Social, 609 F Street, Downtown Anchorage.

  • Why Go: Known for their era‑defining cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” the band is celebrating nearly 30 years on the scene with a live show full of nostalgia and new material. It’s a rare chance to see a platinum‑selling act in an intimate, local venue.

Run for your life

Skinny Raven Frightening 4K

  • What & When: Lace up for the Frightening 4K on Saturday, Oct 25. The mass start is at 11 a.m. in front of the Hotel Captain Cook.

  • Where: Hotel Captain Cook courtyard, Downtown Anchorage.

  • Why Go: This Halloween‑themed run stages from the spooky Captain Cook courtyard and features trick‑or‑treat stations at every kilometre. Wear your best costume for the contest and fill your bag with candy along the route. After you cross the finish line, head straight to Trick or Treat Street to keep the fun going.

Trick or Treat Street – Downtown Halloween Festival

  • What & When: Trick or Treat Street takes over downtown on Saturday, Oct 25 from noon – 4 p.m.

  • Where: 4th Avenue & Town Square Park, Anchorage.

  • Why Go: Downtown will be packed with spooky fun for all ages, including haunted trolley rides, a photo booth, trunk‑or‑treating with vintage cars and appearances by Molly of Denali. Bring three canned food donations for the Food Bank of Alaska and get free validated parking.

Crafty fun

Begich Bazaar – 2nd Annual Makers’ Market

  • What & When: The Begich Bazaar returns for its second year on Saturday, Oct 25 (11 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and Sunday, Oct 26 (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

  • Where: Begich Middle School, 7440 Creekside Center Drive, Anchorage.

  • Why Go: Discover unique, handmade treasures from local artists and crafters and enjoy concessions at this weekend‑long maker market. Proceeds from vendor fees and snack sales benefit Begich Middle School, a Title I campus. Admission is free – a great way to support local talent and get a jump on holiday shopping.
